International Student Career Week

Get a jump start on your career in the United States during International Student Career Week. Each spring the Office of International Services collaborates with campus partners to host a series of career-themed events focused on the specific needs and perspectives of international students.

Monday, March 12

Improv for Networking
12:00-1:00 p.m. | Student Services Building, 1200 West Harrison, Conference Room A
Would you like to improve your communication and networking skills? Do you like to laugh? In this workshop, UIC Lecturer and Second City Instructor Ranjit Souri will teach you some improvisational comedy basics that you can use to enhance your networking skills!

Navigating a Career Fair
4:00-6:00 p.m. | Student Center East, 750 South Halsted Street, Room 713
Join UIC Career Services Associate Director for Employer Relations, Jaime Velasquez, as he explains how to maximize your time at a career fair. Special considerations for international students will also be discussed.

Tuesday, March 13

Managing Multiple Offers
12:00-1:00 p.m. | Student Services Building, 1200 West Harrison, Conference Room A
What do you do when you receive, or expect to receive, more than one job offer at once? You may be surprised to learn that there is definitely a right and a wrong way to handle this situation. Patrick Devanney, Associate Director of the Engineering Career Center, will discuss how to navigate this tricky but common scenario with professionalism.

Etiquette Dinner
5:00-8:00 p.m. | Student Center East, 750 South Halsted Street, Illinois Room
Join the Office of International Services and Career Services for a unique evening of dinner and learning. Participants will be served a multi-course meal accompanied by U.S. business dinner etiquette instruction. To compliment the immersion experience, business casual attire is strongly encouraged.
To register - Visit the Office of International Services to pay a $5 participation fee (cash only) by Tuesday, March 6, 5:00 p.m.

 
Wednesday, March 14

International Alumni Career Panel
4:30-7:30 p.m. | Student Services Building, 1200 West Harrison, Conference Room BC
Hear real-life job search and career experiences from recent international UIC alumni working in the U.S. The Q&A panel will be followed by a networking practice session. Light refreshments will be served. This event is co-hosted by the Engineering Career Center, Career Services, Graduate Student Council, and the Office of International Services.

Thursday, March 15

All Majors Career Fair
10:00-2:00 p.m. | UIC Forum, 725 West Roosevelt Road
Attend UIC’s largest career fair featuring over 100 employers from various industries including technology, engineering, government, business, healthcare & pharmaceuticals, and non-profit. This event is organized by Career Services and will feature Pop-Up CPT & OPT Advising by the Office of International Services.

Friday, March 16

Forecasting the Employment Immigration Landscape
12:00-1:00 p.m. | Student Services Building, 1200 West Harrison, Conference Room BC
In the current political climate it can be overwhelming to think about entering the U.S. workforce as an international student in need of visa sponsorship. Hear from UIC Associate Vice Provost for Global Engagement and Executive Director of the Office of International Services, Jim Hammerschmidt, PhD, as he broadly discusses the current immigration employment landscape and what changes, if any, can be expected in the near future.
