USCIS to require full COVID-19 vaccination series for certain applicants subject to immigration medical examination

On September 14, 2021, U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that it is updating its policy guidance by requiring applicants subject to the USCIS immigration medical examination to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before a civil surgeon can complete and sign Form I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record.  This policy guidance update applies to all Forms I-693 that are signed by a civil surgeon on or after October 1, 2021. The announcement also lists cases where USCIS may grant blanket waivers of the COVID-19 vaccine requirement, including but not limited to the applicant not being age-appropriate.

A completed and signed Form I-693 typically is required in cases where the applicant is applying to become a lawful permanent resident (Form I-485), as well as in other necessary cases.

Please note that this update is for informational purposes only and does not constitute legal advice. More information can be found on the USCIS website and specific questions should be directed to a personal immigration attorney.
