Premium Processing Fee Increase Effective Oct. 19

Today, Oct. 16, 2020, U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that, effective Oct. 19, it will increase premium processing fees on most filings from $1,440 to $2,500. Any Form I-907, Request for Premium Processing, postmarked on or after Oct. 19 must include the new fee or it will be rejected by USCIS. To view exceptions on the Form I-907 fee increase and detailed postmark requirements, please visit the USCIS website.

The USCIS premium processing service allows petitioners to pay an additional fee to expedite the adjudication of certain forms, generally within 15 days. At UIC, Form I-907, Request for Premium Processing is most often used by the Office of International Services when preparing an H-1B, O-1 or permanent resident petition on behalf of a department that has opted for USCIS' premium processing service. As such, OIS will be updating internal forms to reflect this USCIS fee increase and will reach out to departments with impacted cases in process.

As a reminder, USCIS fee increases and premium processing periods that were to have gone into effect on Oct. 2 remain on hold due to a nationwide preliminary injunction issued by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The Form I-907 fee increase described here does not fall under this injunction.

As always, OIS will continue to monitor news surrounding USCIS processes and update the UIC community. Please feel free to reach out to us at ois@uic.edu or +1 (312) 996-3121 with any questions or concerns about this announcement.
