Schedule of Events

Sweet Home Chicago

Wednesday, January 8 | 11:30 a.m. - 4:30 pm
Student Services Building, 1200 West Harrison Street, Conference Rooms

Get to know your new home, Chicago! This session includes a presentation on getting around and exploring Chicago followed by a guided tour of the city in a classic trolley. Get your camera ready for some fantastic photo opportunities! Lunch is included.

This event is strongly encouraged but online registration is required for participation.

New International Student Summit

Friday, January 10 | 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Student Services Building, 1200 West Harrison Street, Conference Rooms

The Summit brings all incoming international students together for one exciting day. Information covered during this session includes immigration responsibilities, U.S. and classroom culture and essential UIC resources. Breakfast and lunch are included.

This event is mandatory for all incoming international students; please plan your travel accordingly. Online registration is required for participation.

Gurnee Mills Shopping Trip

Saturday, January 11 | 9:45 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Student Services Building, 1200 West Harrison Street to Gurnee, IL

Join OIS on a trip to the largest outlet and full-price shopping destination in Illinois. Gurnee Mills is a shopping mall with over 200 stores. Students typically buy household items and winter clothing. OIS will provide transportation from the UIC campus to the mall in Gurnee, IL and back.

This session is optional but in-person registration is required for participation. Please visit the Office of International Services upon your arrival in Chicago to register.

 

Registration & Fee Information

Registration is required for all mandatory and optional International Student Orientation events. Please register using the online registration form.

All incoming international students are charged a non-refundable Orientation/Arrival Fee of $149 to their university bill to cover the costs of initial arrival services and programs, regardless of ISO participation. However, there is no additional charge for participation in selected ISO events.

 

Guest Information

Family and guests are welcome at all International Student Orientation events. There is a $10 per person fee for each ISO event that a guest attends. This Orientation Event Fee will be charged to your university bill at the beginning of your first semester of study. You may register your guests when completing the online registration form linked above.

 

Countdown to Chicago Pre-Arrival Communications

Countdown to Chicago emails are sent to incoming international students in the weeks prior to their arrival in Chicago. They highlight a variety of pre-arrival preparation topics including International Student Orientation, registering for classes, housing in Chicago, and more.
