The Office of International Services (OIS) is happy to announce that Sprintax, a tax-preparation software to assist you in the filing of your 2016 Federal and State Tax Returns, is now available in the my.UIC portal. When you log in, to find the Sprintax software, please click on the "Services" section of the portal, then click on "Information Technology." A new window will open with instructions on how to create (or login to) your Sprintax account. Follow the instructions for how to complete the forms. If you still have any issues with the software, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
As an International Student or Scholar in the US, it is very important that you comply with US tax law and understand the tax filing requirements of your visa. Do not forget that if any of the following circumstances apply to you, you must file a US tax return:
• You worked in the US
• You received a stipend, grant or allowance in 2016
• You had no earnings - if you did not work or receive income in the US you’re still legally obliged file a tax return to declare no earnings.
Sprintax will help you file a timely and accurate return and avoid IRS penalties and fines.
