Chicago HOPES

Chinese Students

The Office of International Services, in conjunction with Chicago HOPES, a program sponsored by Chicago Public Schools, provides international students the opportunity to engage area children in temporary living situations with enrichment activities to broaden their cultural horizons. UIC international student volunteers visit shelters in various neighborhoods of Chicago to present, and fully immerse, the children in learning activities related to their different cultures from around the world.

In 2011, students from China, Jordan, Scotland, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and South Korea demonstratedgames and activities from their home countries and proudly illustrated the uniqueness of their cultures for the children in attendance. Traditional costumes, languages, geography and food were all topics explored during their experience with the Chicago HOPES students.
