The Office of International Services, in conjunction with the Office of Career Services, would like to invite you to the 2014 International Student Career Month. The following is a list of some of the workshops are designed to help international students navigate the world of finding employment. Whether you are a student looking for an internship or are about the graduate and are looking for a post-graduation job, these workshops will cover the basics of resume and cover letter writing to interview skills and navigating the U.S. immigration system. The month features internship and job fairs that are designed for you to meet potential employers. For the events listed below, we ask that you reserve a place by sending an email to email@example.com. Curricular Practical Training (CPT) Workshop
Friday February 14, 2014 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Student Center East Room 613
This session prepares students for the Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and covers several topics, including: appropriate uses for CPT, the application process, and maintaining status.
Life After F-1/J-1
Wednesday February 19, 2014 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM
James Stukel Towers Theatre
This workshop presents useful information to students on the various visa types they may be eligible for once they have completed their studies at UIC, including H-1B, O-1, and Legal Permanent Residency. Students will learn how to advocate for themselves in the interview process to ensure that their rights as applicants are respected.
The Do’s and Don’ts in the U.S. Workplace

Office of International Services Conference Room
This session will cover how many people working in the United States conduct themselves in a work setting and the common expectations of most U.S. employers. Special topics will be discussed, including: ethics and compliance, sexual harassment laws, and common forms of communication between co-workers and supervisors.
Career Panel & Networking

Networking is an important part in helping you land the perfect job! Meet and receive advice from former international students that have experienced employment success in the United States as well as hear the perspective of recruiters on what they look for in international candidates through the job application process. Joins us as they share their stories, career paths and answer your questions. A panel discussion will kick off the workshop with a fun networking session with refreshments to follow.
